Moving Beyond Having a DEI Statement – Practical Ways to Implement DEI Initiatives Throughout Your Organization

I.C.E. Exchange Program Description: You’ve talked the talk and now you’re ready to walk the walk! Do you have a beautifully crafted DEI statement and need ideas for the next steps? Or you are wondering whether the changing legal landscape requires revisiting your DEI approach? This is the workshop for you! During this workshop, you’ll learn about legal developments that affect how organizations can support their DEI objectives. You’ll also learn about practical tips and steps for implementing DEI strategies throughout all levels of your organization, including your Board, staff, and even outward facing in the community. You don’t have to spend a lot of money or develop elaborate events to start making a difference. In this interactive session, the workshop leaders will share real examples that have been implemented at all levels of organizations and will encourage participants to share their experiences. We’ll look at how initiatives—both small and large—can impact your employees, your stakeholders, SME’s, certificants and your organization’s reputation, and we’ll talk about ways you can start measuring that impact. Before the session ends, you will have time to reflect on ideas shared and how they may be adapted for your organization. You will leave the workshop with the beginning of a draft plan for implementing at least one initiative at your organization. Everyone involved in certification from recruitment of SMEs to exam development and administration can make a difference and all levels of staff are encouraged to attend.

Learning Objectives:

  • Upon completion, participant will be able to identify which DEI strategies are more likely to invite legal challenges and which strategies even DEI opponents consider legally permissible.
  • Upon completion, participant will be able to identify examples of implementing a DEI initiative with at least two levels within their organization (i.e., board, executive staff, all staff, certificants, etc.)
  • Upon completion, participant will be able to identify ways of measuring impact of initiatives that are implemented.
