Value of Accreditation: Continuing the Conversation on Using Value Statements to Position Your Program

I.C.E. Exchange Program Description: Credentialing organizations seek third-party accreditation for many reasons that include confirmation of credentialing program quality and consistency, market differentiation, and positioning certificants for eligibility for registries and licensure. Conveying these values of accreditation in a way that is meaningful to stakeholders, sometimes even within a credentialing organization, can prove challenging. The Accreditation Service Council (ASC) has been working on an initiative to further define and illustrate the value of accreditation for NCCA, ACAP, and IAS/NCCA dual accreditation programs. The ASC goal is to provide messaging on the importance and value of accreditation to support accredited programs as well as programs considering accreditation.

The ASC has created a high-level value statement for accreditation as well as specific value statement outlines for each of I.C.E.’s accreditation programs. The purpose of this presentation is to highlight the value statements and spotlight a few organizations as case studies to illustrate the value and benefits.

During this presentation, ASC will also showcase and pilot the plug-and-play resources developed by I.C.E. to help organizations communicate the value of accreditation to their stakeholder audiences.

This presentation will also offer recommendations on the aspects of a credentialing organization’s value proposition that should be emphasized when communicating with its various stakeholder audiences, such as:
• consumers of the services provided by certified individuals
• legislators, regulators, and registries
• employers and hiring decision makers
• certificants
• potential certificants
• adjunct professionals that refer consumers to certificants
• payors that cover fees for certificant services (if applicable)
• international parties (if applicable)
