I.C.E. Exchange Program Description: Assessment industry standards have long focused on the evaluation of knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) as a fair and valid approach to candidate evaluation. But based on historical limitations with assessment technology, many assessments have focused predominantly on the knowledge portion of KSAs. Though practical assessments in a variety of industries and clinical assessments in healthcare have included skill evaluation, still little has been done with inclusion of more holistic candidate abilities in the assessment process. This limitation in training programs and proficiency evaluations has led to gaps in candidates’ capabilities to meet market and employee needs.
Regardless of a prominent focus on candidate knowledge within high stakes assessment, substantial research (in the last 10 years in particular) has underscored the gaps in the current talent market (across every industry) and the skills that are necessary for successful work performance today and in the future, particularly based on the ongoing rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics. There is a critical need for power skills for successful job performance, including emotional intelligence, communication skills, leadership ability, and competence in diversity, equity, and inclusion. The importance of these abilities has been particularly identified in healthcare, finance, education, and workforce development.
In this session experts from multiple organizations will (1) review the research regarding importance of power skills for successful performance, (2) present examples of current use of VR for ability assessment in low, mid, and high-stakes environments, and (3) note the broader use of VR in such areas as re-certification, continuing education, and supplemental badges to increase value of industry certifications to candidates and employers. An evaluation tool will also be reviewed (and provided) to assist assessment owners in the evaluation of program benefits as well as considerations for introduction of VR into different phases of the certification process.
