Alicia Fernandez-Fernandez, PT, DPT, PhD, CNT is a board member and examination liaison for the not-for-profit Neonatal Therapy Certification Board (NTCB), a small-volume program overseeing certification of neonatal therapists, i.e. occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech language pathologists working in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Neonatal Therapy Certification™ identifies neonatal therapists who have demonstrated minimum standards for the amount of experience, education, and knowledge needed to effectively serve high-risk infants and families in the NICU, with the designation "Certified Neonatal Therapist (CNT)". Dr. Fernandez-Fernandez has been a neonatal physical therapist since 2003, has a PhD in biomedical engineering, and is currently full professor and PhD program director in the physical therapy department at Nova Southeastern University, along with prn work in the NICU at South Miami Hospital and her service as NTCB exam liaison. Her role in the NTCB includes coordinating the creation, implementation and administration of certification exams; participating in item writer selection and training; engaging collaboratively with other board members in periodic practice analyses to inform new exam content; evaluating exam performance; managing and updating the question bank; and communicating as necessary with the test administration company to ensure smooth operations
