I.C.E. Exchange Program Description: Expanding certification programs internationally can provide opportunities to reach candidates in new markets. The allure of program growth and increased revenue can be real; however, it requires investment of time and resources that are sometimes overlooked, especially when exams are translated. Offering exams in multiple languages requires more than just translating and delivering a test form. To provide equivalent testing experiences for candidates sitting for translated exams, certification programs should engage bilingual/bicultural subject matter experts (SME) in their test development and standard setting activities. This presents new challenges for meeting logistics, certification operations, program expenses, and considerations for maintaining accreditations.
This session will provide attendees with an overview of the challenges the American Council on Exercise (ACE) encountered when setting passing standards for ACE Personal Trainer Certification exams in multiple languages and the solution that ACE and Meazure Learning came up with to streamline the process by assembling a panel of bilingual/bicultural SMEs representing multiple languages to achieve its standard setting goals, maintain compliance with best industry practices and accreditation standards, and reduce costs.
This session will present requirements and recommendations for ensuring an effective cut score meeting. It will also review important standards to be cognizant of when working with translated exams, look at implications for validity, and explore how to work within a finite set of resources.
